  • Aloe vera pulp: It is one of the most effective Ayurvedic herbs for relieving piles inflammation. Aloe vera is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral in nature. It can soothe the itching, redness and swelling. Take 2-3 large leaves of the aloe vera plant and peel off the green layers. Collect the transparent gel in a clean bowl. Mash this pulp to get a sticky liquid. Apply this gel on the anal area multiple times in a day, especially after you pass stools.
  • Take Sitz bath: It helps to relieve irritation, pain, and discomfort of piles. Sitz bath disinfects the area between rectum and vulva. You can easily take a sitz bath in a bathtub at home. Firstly, clean the tub thoroughly and fill it up with 3 to 4 inches warm water. Get in the tub and soak your anal area in it. You can bend your knees or rest them on the outside of the tub. Stay in this water for 15 minutes. When you step out of the tub, gently pat the area dry with a clean and soft towel. Do not scrub it hard. Clean the bathtub again after use.
  • Coconut oil: Extra virgin coconut oil is analgesic and anti-inflammatory in nature. You can apply it on the anal region with your hands. It will keep the skin soft and supple. It will also help to relieve the friction on the affected anal area during defecation.  Apply it 3-4 times a day till your piles are healed completely.
  • Triphala powder: Tried and tested Ayurvedic medicine for piles. Constipation is a major trigger for piles. So, if you can prevent constipation, you can treat piles completely. Consume 1 tablespoon of triphala powder with a warm cup of water at bedtime daily. It will ensure that your bowels are cleared in the morning every day. 
  • Watch What You Eat

    What to eat:

      Fresh fruits like papaya, banana, kiwi, oranges, prunes, berries and apples are very good for relieving constipation. This keeps preesure off your anal nerves and tissues. Add raw veggies to your salad platter. Carrot, tomato, beans, leafy greens, cucumber, Brussel’s sprouts, lentils, chickpea, green peas, cabbage, broccoli, pumpkin will keep the fibre content high in your diet. Tender coconut water works wonders in keeping your system well hydrated. It provides many nutrients and keeps your bowel movements smoother. Drink at least 3-4 liters of lukewarm water every morning to flush out the toxins.

      Spicy, processed and packaged fast foods especially with white flour are a big no! Lose all the bakery items like bread and pastries too. Avoid eating or drinking dairy items as they are hard to digest and may result in constipation. Milk, cheese, cottage cheese, ice cream, milk based sweets etc. are best kept at bay if you have piles. Do not eat meat or eggs. They are hard to digest and may clog up your digestive tract.  Lessen your salt intake. This will prevent bloating due to water retention and unnecessary pressure on your anal nerves.  Alcohol and caffeinated items also make you suffer from constipation and are best avoided.
